used to behave that way. I changed the thermoswitch (three prong) because
the fan stopped working. Since then I noticed that the fan only comes on
when the temp gets above 3/4 and will not turn on when A/C is turned on. I
know its a 2 speed fan does this mean only one of the speeds is
Does the fan have a 3 pin plug? You have to pull the lug off and look at the
motor connector, some are 2, others (A/C) may be 3.
Most if not all thermoswitches are 3 terminal, motors vary, some are 2
terminal, others 3 terminal.
Look for a large wire wound resistor near the motor that has a red/.white,
attached to it (2 wires, one goes directly to the motor and attaches to the
same terminal as the red/black) It is about 3" long and 3/4" diameter. This
is used on some models (with 2 terminal motors) for the LOW speed, and may
be why yours is not working. You can test it thus: Connect a hot wire from
battery+ to the red/white on the resistor, fan should run low speed. If it
does not run, the resistor is probably defective.
Iff you apply +12 to the red/black wire on the fan, it will run high speed.
If your fan motor is a 3 terminal, it has the 2 speed windings inside it,
and no resistor.
I didn't catch the year and model of your car, so I couldn't look it up in
Bentley.
