[Vwdiesel] WVO question

Hi Nick-

I've been running a mix of veggie oil/diesel fuel in
my Cabriolet Diesel for several weeks, with no issues
so far.

I try to keep it in the neighborhood of 50/50, using
more diesel fuel when it was cooler.

Here's what I've noticed so far:
Start up: so far this summer, the first start up in
the morning we've had temps around 65-70 or so. It
doesn't start hard, but idles a little lower/lumpier
for just a minute or so, then clears up and runs fine.
Every start up after this is normal like diesel fuel.

Power: No difference in power using the
seat-of-the-pants dyno.

Economy: It is hard to tell for sure (because the
veggie oil gets dumped in the tank via gas can, so
measurement isn't precise), but it seems like the
tanks with veggie mixed in last for more miles.

I do usually end up filling the tank with straight
diesel every 3-4 fillups. I'd imagine that this will
help keep any gunk from building up too much in the
pump/injectors. I also toss some diesel additive in
with the veggie oil when it is filtering.

Speaking of filtering...

I build an auto-filter setup. I used one clear 30
gallon drum that is sitting on its side on a stand. I
pour the oil into this drum via the top hole.

The oil runs out the bottom hole, through a farm-style
fuel filter, and into the lower drum, which is
standing on its end.

Finally, I just use a hand-pump to crank the oil out
of the lower drum.

Simple!
