After some discussion with Loren and reading about the exploits of The
Great One, I got ambitious today and made up a valve and gauge to sit in the
cockpit and both monitor turbo boost pressure and be able to open or close
the boost line to the enrichment aneroid on the FI pump. I have one of
those large wall mounted boiler room gauges that reads from 30" Hg vacuum on
one side of center and 0-15 PSIG boost on the other. Easy to read and
accurate. It mounts on a brass Tee with a 1/4" ball valve off to the hose
going to the spaceship. The other hose always on the gauge side of the
valve goes to the turbo.
With the manual test valve closed the engine has far less pep but still
seems adequate for casual city and 80-100 km/h highway driving. I plan a
100 km trip now to get a smileage number with the homemade ECO mode
exclusively engaged full time.
With my slipping clutch the ECO mode is going to help get more life out of
my clutch. One thing I did notice. My clutch breaks free accelerating in
normal when the turbo boost reaches 5-7 PSIG.
Film at eleven!
