[Vwdiesel] Front Crank Seal

Since I just had to replace my crank timing gear I can say that you will
need a strong 1/2 inch drive breaker bar. The easiest way to keep the crank
from spinning is to pull the oil pan and block the crank with a piece of
wood. The initial torque isn't bad, it is getting that extra 1/2 turn on the
bolt that really tested my breaker bar. That is when you are ready to put it
all back together after the seal replacement. My seal was still in great
shape since it is fairly new.

I recall that recently there was a thread on the front crankshaft
seal replacement. I've now have my 91 on the road, and the front crank
is leaking much more than I'd like.
Can anyone comment on removal issues, and whether I need the tool shown
in Bentley, for pulling the seal?
Thanks.
Val
