Before I put these on Ebay, I thought I would offer them here:
1 completely rebuilt head, 12mm, built to turbo specs, with 3 notch
gasket and full upper engine gasket kit (I have over $450 in this so
be fair if you really want it)
1 valve adjusting kit complete with disc pliers, 2 lifter
compressors, and a full box of assorted valve adjustment discs (this
is the adjustment disc kit like the dealer used, even has the little
magnet for lifting the discs out of the box)
1 pair Passat/Jetta/Golf spindles and brake calipers. As near as I
can tell these will fit any of the A3 and B4 cars.
2 Caddy doors with glass (fixed vent windows)
1 Caddy hood
1 Caddy tail gate
1 complete front suspension set (stock) for Caddy or Rabbit or Jetta
(A1), these all have less than 5000 miles on them, included are 2 -
stock springs, 2 good strut inserts and 2 - strut bearing assemblies
1 FN 5 speed transmission out of a Scirocco
I am also looking for a set of FRONT brake Calipers and carriers from
a 16 valve Scirocco if anybody has a set laying around.
Now for the steering rack adventure. Several weeks ago, I installed
a set of heavy duty, variable rate springs, new strut cartridges,
strut bearings and camber bolts on my Caddy. I finally got around to
getting it aligned today. Shop puts it on the rack and then tells me
it can't be done. "Something" is wrong with the steering rack but it
affects only the Passenger side not both sides. Anyway, got it home
and up in the air and sure enough, the passenger side tie rod has a
lot of movement, up and down, side to side and diagonally but not in
and out. I spend an hour or two removing all the parts that must
first be removed to get the rack out (I would love to beat the german
engineers who came up with this design, the rear engine/tranny mount
has to come off for gosh sakes!). After finally removing the rack, I
push back the boot on the passenger side and find it is full of bits
and pieces of the end seal/guide that keeps the rack arm centered.
Without this seal/guide, the rack arm can be moved in almost any
direction. Luckily the local FLAPS can have me one in the morning
and the truck will be back on the road. Fun, fun, fun......some how,
I am not sure that this old 49 year old body can keep climbing under
this thing to keep it running..... Oh well, as soon as I get my
wiring harness back, then I will put the TDI engine in and everything
will be just great. I will keep you all up to day on part 2,
steering rack installation tomorrow. Hayden
