[Vwdiesel] Posessed Quantum Starter

Hi,

I agree with the voltage drop thoughts.

Here's what I'd do if I were you (based on the fact
that it starts 100% of the time when connected to the
battery):

Install a relay.

Just find a standard, higher amperage automotive
relay.  Use the smaller wire that connects to the
starter to trigger the relay, and some big, fat wires
to connect the battery to the relay, and the relay to
the starter.

Basically, this will recreate your touching the wire
to the battery, but will allow you to control it via
the switch.  (You could probably start using the
original wire from the ignition switch.)

This should buy you time on the starter at the least,
or could make it work for years to come.
