[Vwdiesel] Starting problems # 1. ---- ( solutions by Hagar )

Hi all, I'm piping up again (uh oh )
Dough Ferguson .  ---- (right ? )

Is Hagar a Wizard on starting problems ???  ----bet your sweet-ass ---and that took a lot
of  Study at Hogwarts----to get that title-.

Ferguson and Loren and Sandy Cameron and many more of course are very good. ---and some
may even be WIZARDS.

I am still working on my  diesel WIZARD  diploma.

First you must go back to BASICS  --if you ask anything but specifics in here. So here is
a start on basics.
for VW Rabbit Diesels 1977 to 1784  ---all models., yes Mark Shepherd   Quantum too.

Here are the basics in order of most likely problem.    ---- # 1.  Cranking speed  --# 2 .
Fuel  --- #  3 . Glowplugs.

Lets take the cranking speed first  -----DA BATTERY. ----test the bloody thing according
to Archive inf..   Then check connections like Ferguson suggested.  I use a cheap
digital ---then there is no worry about polarity or what range , it is set
n.  ----Battery is simple to test ---Apple Pie  say I.   Now the starter is more of a
problem .    WE will deal with that later.
You will need sandpaper and VASELINE. ---Battery terminal must be shiny like silver on
with the Vaseline and fast. Sandpaper all terminal connectors ---YES and ground
connections  ---and give her DA Vaseline -
exactly according to archive information.
OK so your cranking is fast ? --Jah ? ---then  we check FUEL in PUMP ---DA PUMP must be
full to the brim.    I recommend a squeeze-bulb ----on the Rabbits I use an
OMC ------about 18 dollars.
Best is a Bobcat 743 if you can find one.--yeah outboard will do.

OK your pump is full of # 2 . Diesel ?---fresh from the pump ?  --no water ?  OK we look
at the glowplugs--- To test ?---simple as APPLE Pie ---- use the same digital  on the
milli-volt scale to measure voltage drop on Glowplug bussbar.
All is OK ? and problem is there in the morning ----check for leaks in IP ---very common.

PS : If Hagar can not start it ?--- get on your knees and pray and tell Hagar to use his
Dogwood Wand.
Forget about the Wand he already used it.
