  There was the "self machining" syndrome where a clip of some sort 
was omitted, would break, something and one of the shafts would 
grind through the engine end of the case.  That was close ratio 
trannys only I believe.  There was some problem with ring gear 
rivets breaking also I believe as there are bolt kits available to 
replace and strengthen that union.
