Don't you know, those rocks stick in the tire in a uniform pattern to keep
the tires balanced. If you rotate the tire you will find one on the opposite
side.
Just kidding. Good point! How does it stay in balance if there is such a
build up of soot, carbon and such in the turbo?

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Turbo balancing
I've always heard that balancing a turbo should always be done if the
factory
balance has been upset. I will always balance mine, but just wondering how
it can be so important? Each time I have dismantled a functional turbo it
has
had considerable deposits on the turbine and compressor. Those deposits
certainly were not uniform or balanced and yet the turbo worked fine. Kinda
like
having tires balanced and then looking down a week later to see that you
have
10 rocks stuck in the tread of each tire.
