[Vwdiesel] OT: Atomic 4 engine

Yup, Universal is/was located in Oshkosh, WI. They still sell (or at least
market) engines. Someone previously mentioned that they no longer produce
the A4.

I have also heard/read that the A4 was used on vehicles. Great engine for
that, but they "only" generate 30 HP (at least the Marine version).

The A4 will drink, and like, amazing things. Mine started on 10 year old
fuel! And, it ran great, until the fuel/water seperator filled up. (Which
was something I installed, based on my Diesel experiences) I emptied the
water, and the engine started right up again.

Of course, it smelled like varnish when running on fuel that old. You
gotta love low compression engines. (Tongue in cheek)

This is probably not the right thing to say on this list, but the A4 is
way easier to run than marine diesels. Every marine diesel owner I have talked
to has had fuel contamination issues. Not so with an A4.

But, in 40 years when the A4 finally gives up the ghost, I am going to put
a Diesel in my Newport 30, so I can run veggie oil. :-)
