I was able to get the Jetta out on the road this evening for a test/break-in
run. I got the injector line leak fixed and did a short three mile sprint to
do a good leak check. All was well so I took it out on the interstate for a
32 mile drive. I was able to get it out and run in up in 5th and coast down
to 45mph and then back up to 70mph. Did this, oh about 15 times, then ran it
out on the interstate up to 85mph with no problems. The temp would climb
some past center but never close to the ¾ mark. It ran on the center line as
long as I kept it below 75mph. I varied the throttle the whole trip. It has
really good pick up and power, I was able to get it up to 75mph on the on
ramp to I-40 with no problems. As for smoke, there is some in the head
lights but couldn’t really tell since nobody was really close to me. The
first short run out on the road at high throttle and rpm I had some black
smoke that I could see but it was getting dark out by then. Now remember
this is an ECO car with a Cat on it but I added an LDA to the original IP. I
also had the IP completely overhauled and calibrated along with the turbo.
Speaking of which it really has a whine to it now. I never heard it before
like it does now. Amazing what new bearings and all will do. I was maxing
out at 9psi boost. I guess that is stock for a K-14 turbo. Still no oil
pressure and I’m going to have to figure out a way to keep the low warning
light/buzzer from going off. That really gets annoying and driving around in
3rd on the highway to keep the rpms up to keep the buzzer off just won’t
cut it. All in all it was a nice run and I’m very pleased with it. All that
hard work and trouble shooting, not to mention blown $$$ has paid off in a
way and it sure helps that it runs so well. I’m still getting a rubbing
noise, now worse than ever on take off in first and some in second gear
under some what hard to hard acceleration.. I’m wondering if my exhaust is
pulling up against my sway bar? Don’t see any evidence of it. Or anything
else rubbing or marked up.

Thanks to everyone for all their support and help. It will be nice to be
back on the road with some economy. Especially now that I have to take my
daughter to therapy twice a week. That alone is adding 120 miles to my
already 300 miles a week drive. Tonight calls for an early bedtime. :-)
