  Biggest difference is the notch for squirter clearance.  In the 
"early" days, TD pistons were spendy and hard to come by so 
I heard from more than one supplier of customers who'd bought 
NA pistons and had a notch machined into them.  I suppose you 
could score a line and file or grind for that matter, just balance 
afterward.  
  I never noticed any other differences until the last set or two.  On those 
I DID notice what looked like some sort of coating over most of the 
top of the piston.  It was really in a "D" shape and didn't go to the 
edges.  Looked like the ceramic coating I'd used only with no 
polishing done to it.  Won't say none others had it but I sure 
never noticed it before.
