Sandy, I'm GREEN with envy.
It was on the tube news in Toronto last week when I was there, at least it
made that much public news fodder. Mostly because it was Steve, not
necessarily because of the daring feat I imagine. Can't say Fosset has no
stones... At least the engines shouldn't fail.
The plane was beautifuly done. Absolutely freakin spectacular actually from
the pictures I saw on the tube. Showed a cowling being buttoned on, and an
engine test. Were you there when a TV crew was filming? You may have made
the evening news. was the airframe a period restoration, or is it dipped in
unobtainium ?
I cut my plane teeth on these aircraft- I was hand drawing posters of them
for oral reports in elementary school and it was just downhill from there.
You at all interested in burning another disc, and ...er... mailing it?
pretty please?
I can send you a bunch of discs, like enough to make copies for the av
crowd. There was a sale...
-James

There are enough aviators here, that I am unabashed at posting this.
I had the experience of a lifetime today, as 4 guys in 2 cessna 150's (I was
one of them), accessed by canola burning VW diesel, (obligatory diesel
content) landed at Ottawa's Rockcliffe airport and taxied up the the new air
museum hanger where Steve Fossett's Vimy replica is being prepared for its
Atlantic crossing. There was not much public fuss, it seemed to have gone
almost without notice.
There it sat in the hanger with the doors open, while 3 airmechs fitted
cowlings to the engines. To demonstrate how informal things were, I, and a
friend, held one of the cowlings in place while the airmech fitted it to the
brackets and installed the fasteners.
Needless to say, my digital camera got up close and personal with the plane.
The biggest (Garret?) turbo I have ever seen, an intercooler the size of a
mack radiator, V8 orenda liquid cooled piston engines made in toronto, and
60 some odd feet of fabric covered wings.
Once I get the pix sorted (good from duds) and burned to a disk, I will
arrange to go somewhere that has high speed, and send them to those who
might be interested.
No way am I going to try to shove them through my 56k modulated knothole.
I should live so long.
Tony, any ideas?
(Tony is my golf flogging computer guru)
Sandy
