[Vwdiesel] TD Aneroid/Spaceship adjustment

So, I opened the aneroid up today, and while cleaning off the oil to
find the dot on the plastic piece on top of the rubber diaphragm I
proceeded to spin the diaphragm (oops-before finding the dot) I assume
that I've just adjusted it.
Standing facing the engine pulleys, It's easy to spin with the dot
between 9 and 12 O'clock, harder to spin between 3 and 6 O'clock. I'm
wondering if the dot is off just a little bit, and the 10:30 and 4:30
positions are the min/max boost on my pump. I can't really tell any
difference in resistance pushing it down as I spin it. Anyone with
experience? It seems to like sitting in the 10:30 position.
Am I correct in thinking that I do not have to loosen the screw on top
of the diaphragm, but merely have to spin it to adjust? What can I look
at under the diaphragm to find where it used to be? I guess I can just
play with it until it's adjusted nicely.
My ultimate goal is to get more fueling under no/low boost and decrease
the full boost fueling.
I've lowered the max fuel screw about 1/2 turn. (still smoking at high
rpms though). I'm assuming that this only affects the full boost
(aneroid down) level and that turning the max fuel screw down is not
lowering my fueling at low rpms? Is this correct??
My thought was to lower the max fuel until it wasn't smoking at high
rpms, and then turn the aneroid so the dot was closer to the 6 o'clock
position to increase boost fueling at early boost mid rpms until I started getting
mid-level smoke. I'd really like to increase the non-boost fueling, if I'm mistaken on my max fuel screw assumption, then I could increase low rpm fueling by turning the max fuel screw back in, or do something else with the aneroid.. hmmm..
I think I understand what's going on, we'll see if reality fits with my
idea.
Will.
