If you are a Newbie to diesels ? ---- this discussion is very important to you. ---WHY ?
because this group of Loren ,Val Christian , Doyt Echelberger, William Thompson and Hagar
in combination , represents more experience and KnowHOW than a lot of groups on the net-.
We are discussing the Rabbit 1977 to 1984 ----mostly ---but it is applicable to other diesel
cars.
Now on the issue "Does a diesel slow down the car when you let of on the pedal " ?
How did this discussion start ? ---a member long long time ago --was complaining that
he had no braking from engine on his Rabbit. ----- after many many experiments
I discovered that Diesel in Rabbit do not brake the car if Pump (IP) is
adjusted wrong. ------ in OLD Rabbits it is a "TUNING" issue. -----the interaction
fueling screw and Idle adjustment was ---CRITICAL.
Set it just right and you will all be happy driving a Rabbit. ----------- Bunny Bondo slows
down just fine.
No question from you guys --will be dismissed as stupid from me ---THAT is
a promise.
Does a gasser engine slow down a car better ? ---it is a moot question .
my next test will be driving a Sirocco gasser. ---if I cant get me hands on a
Rabbit. --------------we here in BC are blessed with absolutely smooth paved
hills all over the place. I suspect that Val Christian may be right on that point.
So I buy a round and He buys a round.
By the way I had a lot of FUN with this test -----on many different IP's and they
all responded the same way.
Warning : be careful on that hill ---stopping an OLD Rabbit ----the motor mounts may not like it.
Bunny Bondo jumps all over the place with fuel shut off. ----that is brutal stopping power.
Hagar.
PS : I think I am hooked on that German Radio station (Herz Toronto) I am suppose
to HATE all things German ? ---go figure. Acht du liber augustin.
