The Boeing guy is wrong ----    a solenoid can indeed be intermittent. 

To test if that is the problem ---just remove plunger for a road test.

Be  careful   that little coil spring in there ----has been known to do
disappearing acts.

Many many intermittent coils in my life ----  Magneto ignition is prone to failures.

TV ?       horizontal  oscillator coils  ----flybacks etc ----not getting the picture ?
