[Vwdiesel] Diesel talk for beginners --- ( Does a Dieselengineslow down ...

Hey Loren ...
I had thought of the things you mention but as the
first rule of troubleshooting is to examine the
"last thing done to it" or the most recent
relevant occurrences ... I was wondering about
motor/tranny mounts because of the bucking.

Like I have said in other posts ... this car is
one I got from a friend who became discouraged
with ... older cars. I have only driven this one a
few miles since getting it ... usually just the
required "around the block" every once in awhile
while it was parked waiting in line with the
others for some TLC. Recently along with a few
other piddley tasks ... I R&Red the leaking
intermediate shaft seals ... thank you for the
heads up on the green O-ring ... so I am just now
beginning to drive it out and about more.

As I hoped when I asked ... you did point me to
the most likely cause in your esteemed
consideration ... and I will definitely eyeball
that bushing.

I agree that your comments concerning the "engine
braking" issue regarding "running engine".
Throttling and fueling at idle are the major
factors but I never really noticed a difference
until the discussion about it here. Under normal
circumstances these engines do seem to have a bit
less braking for those reasons but I find that all
that is required to get the "equivalent" braking
is to shift down one more gear.

"... Standard Practice ... "? Having lurked and
posted to this group for awhile now ... I believe
that none of us are of the "standard practice"
ilk. What is standard about a group of people who
love their "plain Jane" cars so fanatically ...
who are so ingenious and resourceful so as to make
their own tools ... and profusely share their
parts and experiences simply for the joy of it
like you and others here do?

Thank you (and others) Loren ... for your
enjoyment in sharing the knowledge.

    ...Bill
