[Vwdiesel] normal running temp

I may have a ground issue that's causing my gauge to read incorrectly...or I
may just not be used to the VW diesel yet...or, I may have a cooling
problem. So, I ask; what is the normal operating/running temp (think
summer in hot weather with & without the AC) for a TD (ECO) '91 Jetta? Mine
runs around the 3/4 mark (or a bit higher) on the gauge but shows no signs
of actually being any warmer than what you'd think was normal temp. The PO
(a friend who I trust) said it always ran there, but the aesthetics (if
nothing else) are unsettling to me. Obviously, I'll be putting in another
gauge to check the temp & I'll be checking any wiring problems that could
cause the gauge to read high (anything in particular to look for?), but I
was curious where I should expect the temp to sit on the car.
My impression from fairly recent purchase & driving experience of this + a
Mercedes 300TD is that diesels are much more sensitive temperature-wise...in
other words, there's a more direct response in temperature to engine speed,
load, etc. than you'd expect with a gas engine. Yes?
