[Vwdiesel] Rabbit droppings # 167 --( The German Blacksmith and Hagar meets )

Era about 1962 ----to 1965 .,        Hagar was making a " Bensen GYROCOPTER "
spindle ---the bolt that holds everything ----It fails at 10 000 feet --? you die .

Getting the right stuff was out of the question due to cost.      Then someone (smart)
suggested --that I go see the  "BLACKSMITH"  at Western Canada Steel.

I found him OK ---BUT   is was close to lunch time .   Now any of my American friends
who suggest that this man was a blacksmith -because  he could NOT make Brain Surgeon ?
is out to lunch.

Whatever  -----NEVER NEVER NEVER rush a Master.----So I waited.        He did NOT use the Union lunchroom .    -----It was a fantastic summers day and he got his folding card table out
A nice checkered tablecloth   --and he opened his Lunchbox ----you get the picture ?

His lunch was GERMAN for sure ---NOT like my balony sandwich.    ----He studied the drawing
and asked the use ----ah he said you need gutes stahl --jah ? ----I said nothing but the best will do.

He said   jah like Krupp Stahl. ?----------

After lunch  ---slightly longer than normal ---EH ? ---he took me to the scrap steel pile.
He selected a truck axle   and struck it with a small hammer.  -----listened real carefully
and said --NEIN --- then he found another one ---and he said ---JAH --SHOEHN-----.
Now this guy had all that was required in his shop.     A  forge an anvil and a  Steam Hammer
(electric)-----and in NO Time I had the most superb spindle ----forged steel  , this world ever
saw. ----Trust me.

We have a resident Blacksmith -----James Hansen  ---- and this Tale is in part for him.

Danny Kay ----explained that he liked playing   Hans Christian Andersen  --partly because
his Father was a Cobbler. (a good one )

If you do OLD Rabbits ?------the Danish Blacksmith Petersen ----is your friend.
He invented the Vice Grip. Pliers.  ---- are they great ? or what.

Someday -- maybe I shall tell you about the Danish coppersmith ? ---a MASTER
craftsman. ------He was doing the  Brewing Kettles for Danish beer at the time..

Whatever when you meet (and I hope you do) a real MASTER of anything   a Painter like VerMeer  Rembrandt ---
or ?   ----- Mozart -----or any GENIOUS ---   now that is an experience you will NEVER
forget .  -----Trust me .-----I wound up working with one ---WOW ----I was senior -----but
I shall always treasure that experience,.

THAT was one smart kid-----Jack McNeil   or something like that. (O'Niel ?).
