[Vwdiesel] the unbearable lightness of being... a vw

In the name of lightening up these wonderful cars, and traveling
has anyone modified the rear seat back (made removable), specfically
removing most of the metal backing so i could use it for carrying
larger items and sleeping there. my favorite way to travel,
car camping. More predictable than the ground.
And here's the real benny. You drive to the north rim of the
grand canyon and no campsites are available. do you drive st george
utah for a hotel or do you park with all the other cars in the overflow 
campers
lot and stretch out in your vw's extended living quarters.
I should be able to cut out most of the metal support without compromising
any unabody structure add plywood for the times when the rear seat is
required.
