[Vwdiesel] Ring Break-In and Oil use... Alien view

Whenever I've taken apart an engine the rings seem to be in
the same spots they were at assembly. Meaning normally
staggered. Of course that's assuming that the assembler
actually took the time to do it right, but when each piston
has the gaps at about the same place for the different
rings it looks like they stayed where they were put -
meaning that from one piston to the next they're the same,
not from one ring to another on the same piston.
Seems I've heard that in extreme cases you can also see
where the metal isn't worn away as much where the gap was
in a worn out engine. But that doesn't make much sense
cause the other compression ring wouldn't have the gap in
the same place.... But I did hear from someone that it
could happen. Haven't ever seen it myself.
I don't know what keeps the rings from rotating. Maybe
there's no force to make them want to rotate?? I'm just
blind guessing.
