[Vwdiesel] talking water pump

Don't drive it anymore! That's how long you can operate the engine with
a failing water pump. Replacement of the pump is not a huge deal but it
will require that you remove the timing belt. Be sure and get a good
OEM or equivalent pump with a cast impeller and use never seeze on all
the little bolts if you are lucky enough to remove them all without a
"twister".

Jack up the front of the car, take off the wheel and viola- there the
little devil is. If the pulley is wobbling, it is about to blow.
Consider yourself lucky that you caught it before failure! Probably a
good idea to replace the thermostat while you are there.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] talking water pump

Today my water pump started screeching intermittantly. I lifted the hood

and pulled the throttle to identify it and it looked like the pully was
wobbling. How long can I continue running like this since there isn't
any coolant coming from the weep hole, yet? How difficult is the
replacement through the riders side wheel well?
