Doug-
I had the bearings go bad in my Corrado's waterpump a
couple years ago. We were in the drive through at a
burger joint, and were planning on driving up to the
Grand Canyon for the night.
Instead, we pushed the car to the parking lot of a
local hotel and stayed there!
The next day, I was able to free up the pump (I think
the impellers were caught on the block or something).
Then, I bought a different belt that was more loose on
the WP pulley (and bypassed the power steering pulley)
and we drove home. The drive home was like 16 hours,
and we did it straight through. Then I drove the car
like this for another week before I could change the
pump. It growled and growled, but never leaked and
the car never overheated.
So, you could be able to go awhile longer, just don't
hot-rod it!
