[Vwdiesel] Heater louver vents

Anyone have suggestion how to tighten up the plastic louver movement on the dashboard vents? I tried black friction tape (about 4 layers) where a louver meets the top housing but wondering if some kind of goop might provide a better source for friction.  Annoying to cram in a piece of thin cardboard in the vents all the time and still want them to be adjustable.
