I'm actually getting things done! Turned the Subadon't back into a
Subado, new crank bearings in the scooter and even fixed the carb
weep. Got that 80mpg US (96mpg Imperial?) back!
Today I got the Dasher torn down! My son's put an hour and a half
into it and got the radiator drained (mostly on the carport floor), hoses
disconnected, injector lines off and the timing belt off. I spent a little
less than two hours and the pistons are out and the head's ready to
pull the keepers and retainers and put in new valve stem seals. Rings
have less than 50K easily but have ~.050" of end gap on the one top
ring I checked. #1 also had ALL the rings nearly in line! Even the
3 piece oil ring had all three pieces lined up better than if I'd tried to!
#2 had all the end gaps within less than 90 of eachother with the top
two rings almost in line. I KNOW I didn't put them in that way! Kinda
'splains the oil usage! New valve stem seals are simply an attempt to
thwart Murphy's law before it attacks.
Got a job offer today too. Kind of a little of everything at a carpet
store
about an hour away. Good friend to work with but it's a bit of a drive and
with fuel prices... Plus I haven't worked regular hours for about 15 years.
Gotta think on it.
Loren
