Hi all,
Having some problems with my vanagon. Was driving the vanagon around
yesterday and after starting from a stop sign, I wound up 1st and shifted to
2nd gear. A little into revving up, it seemed like the engine cut out. I
mashed the diesel pedal but it wouldn't do anything other than slow back
down to idle. I pushed in the clutch and pulled over to the side of the
road. Engine was idling so I put it back in 1st and started revving up
slowly. It seemed OK, so shifted to second and depressed the pedal and
again the same thing, engine power gone. Pushed in the clutch and the
engine was still idling. So basically, if I idle or slightly over idle the
engine, it maintains power. If I try to accelerate as per normal ( mash the
pedal ), power cuts out and engine goes back to idle.
I've had this happen with clogged gas filter on my gas burner so I
changed out the filter and topped off filter with ATF to get it primed.
Fired up the beast and got the air out of the system, but it still has the
problem so I'm kinda stumped. Anyone seen something similar to this before?
It happens in all gears regarding the cutting out problem so I'm pretty sure
nothing tranny related. Wondering if maybe the kill solenoid on the IP has
a bad wire and when the engine torques a bit it cut's it out? Shoot, don't
have a clue actually, just stabbing in the dark.
Bryant
