I went to take apart my turbo and it looks like it may require some special 
kind of sockets to remove the shaft and impellers.

  Shaft and impeller just use a 10mm nut on the impeller side.  Might be 
a 12 pt, or 11mm but remember, the turbine is part of the shaft.  Only 
special tools I know of is a "spline wrench" for the 6 bolts behind the 
impeller.  Don't remember the size but they're available from Snap-On.
I THINK the measurement is the ID of the fastener rather than the OD.  
Speaking of the socket area not the whole head.  I had to do just a pinch 
of filing to the "L" shaped wrench to make it work well.  I think Andrew said 

he found a torx that works.
  Be sure you make a permanent marker mark to line up the shaft with 
the impeller for balance.
