Thanks Loren. I did this tonight and it seems fine. I used some 220 grit sandpaper to 
get the worst roughness off, then used steel wool (didn't have any emory cloth), and 
it seems pretty good. Now I need to decide if I can get away with the same on the 
pressure plate or not - a new one is $65US. The teeth on the PP look ok.
