Thanks all for the help figuring out the engine/tranny on the 94
FrankenJetta (a3 car/a2 1.6TD engine - ACN 8v 5spd trans). I scraped
the block, on the flat spot on the block just below the #3 and #4
injectors and found an "F" I'm assuming that it's a MF block, which
makes sense as it's a turbo from an a2. The turbo is KKK, with 5324(?)
stamped on it, so it's a k24 body, full turbo, not an ecodiesel. Tranny
is ACN 8v, very very tall, poor in 1st and 2nd, but cranks along the
highway in 5th, it's hard to keep it under 80! Perfect for my highway
commute.
I've posted a bunch of pics at <http://www.taygan.org> with questions on
parts I'm working to identify. Slowly grinding through EKTA, but with
multiple years to check, and no a2 or a3 experience, it's a slow
process.
Thanks to all with help with shift linkage questions. The tranny is an
020, so yes the shift is the same as the a2s, there was an 02a tranny in
1994, but only on the big engines, and this one was originally a 2.0L.
Next is to fix the linkage (new bushings on order) and to fix the glow
plugs. I've got silver slow-glows in, with a push-button start, and it
cold-starts at 35 F like c-r-a-p. Warm starts are perfect, I don't even
need to glow, and it's early May in Alaska! Fast glows are ordered,
though I need to figure out the temp control for the relay, and the
wiring before I get the rest of the parts to put in a glow-plug relay.
The current push button works only when the ignition is on, so I'll
probably tie into that.
Will.
