Derick, It's not a bad job at all. You have to remove the plastic
facia under the dash, the steering wheel, column shrouds, all the
switches. Then, with big channel locks, carefully wiggle off the round
nylon spacer from the column (hardest part). Then you can remove the
entire switch mechanism by removing the 6mm allen screw. Once you have
the ignition out, replacement is the reverse of everything. Be sure to
put the nylon spacer back on exactly where you found it. If you shove
it on too far your steering wheel will rub on the column shroud. Be
careful when disconnecting electricals. They all have a little shoulder
where you can push them off with a screw driver.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Ignition Switch
Hello,
While I was out and about I lost the keys to my truck.
How difficult is it on a Rabbit pickup (1981) to remove the ignition
cylinder and replace it?
Thanks in advance,
Derick
