[Vwdiesel] A few TDI followup questions

Shalyn,

Try unhooking the MAF and see if there is any change in the reading. You
can also try spraying the element with contact cleaner. Or if you know
someone with another TDI swap the MAF. Honestly you may end up needing a
MAF. At least they are much lower in price that a couple of years ago.

To All,

I drive a '83 Rabbit 2 Dr NA 1.6l daily. My wife drives a '01 Jetta TDI.
I implore those who have never ridden/driven a TDI, do so. If not for
the purpose of maybe a future purchase just to appreciate the level of
refinement these engines have experienced. The smoothness, power and
comfort. I am not engaging on the increased complexity. Just commenting
on the surface improvements. To think that in the UK you could get a 150
HP 1.9L TDI Golf and still approach 50 MPG US. I would love to ride in
one of those.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] A few TDI followup questions

Now that I have the TDI running, I'm finding all of the other little
problems. One is that for some reason, a little section broke off the
smaller of the two cooling fan's blades. I had the part, didn't know
what it was, and pitched it somewhere. Now, of course, I can't find it
to glue back in and the dealer tells me the blades are not sold
separately, even though they are the worst plastic part I've seen in a
VW. Wouldn't bother me, but the fan runs poorly being imbalanced.
Anyone have a mangled fan motor with a separable blade they could be
convinced to part with? I'm hoping the part is the same across the
A3-A4 so I can maybe get really lucky and find on the a wrecking yard,
even though I've never see a VW that new in the yards. I'm also
thinking that maybe I can just unhook that fan for a bit. I presume
they both run in the same circuit so one should cover the other
somewhat.

The other is that I'm getting an engine code of P3130 19586. Bentley
is silent on this one. I searched TDIclub.com and it turned up
something about the EGR being out of whack. I do know that the EGR is
running like 85%, and the MAF is reading ~500 when it should be at ~250
max at idle. I can't imagine that the MAF died while it was sitting in
the garage for several months. I don't know that much about all of
these parts yet. I guess I will soon....

Any help along the way would be greatly appreciated, as always.

-Shalyn
