All,
The 1.6 NA engine that I first tried to use in my genset project suffered
badly from massive blowby (to the runaway stage) and low oil pressure. I
have determined that the bypass regulator in the oil pump must be seized
open so removal of the pan to access the pump can probably fix the oil
pressure issue. The blowby could be from carbon choked/stuck rings. The
engine sat in storage in my heated shop for almost five years before i got
to this project. I was hoping that by removing the injectors and pouring
some really aggressive solvent in the cylinders over a period of time I
might succeed in disolving the crud in the ring grooves. Has anyone tried
this and if so what solvents were tried and what were the results please?
I am thinking of using xylene and transmission fluid mix..
I don't want to have to buy a $100.00 head gasket to remove the pistons if I
don't have to.
The engine had trouble starting but once lit had lots of power and ran quite
nicely, so I think the minimalist fix I propose could potentially get me a
useable engine..
