I will try not to offend too many people, but I am sure I will.
I am all for alternate fuels. Hydrogen ,Alcohol, hybrid or whatever. But
there is a very REAL factor that in my mind needs to be looked at, and that
is economics. From what I see in the media , the people that seem to be
making a fuss about pollution, the environment, buying new and improved high
efficiency appliances and $30,000 hybrid cars
etc Seem to have the money to
support their beliefs. Now I am for these things too. But I cant afford
them. Plain and simple!
I make a good living . I support my wife and two kids. I recycle when and
where I can. I try and buy good used items when I can. I drive old cars (one
gas one diesel) for a couple of reasons.
1. I can afford to buy them out right. No loans! I recycle. (Just think of
the energy it takes to manufacture a new car?)
2. I can fix them! no chips , no fancy diagnostic tools.
3. Parts are cheap. (I bought a set of rotors for my 86 Golf on the weekend.
$30 bucks for the pair)
4. I travel on average 150 kilmoters per day. Back and forth to work. (Fuel
costs) Hence the interest in Bio-diesel, canola
etc. (plus I like playing
with technology)
So, Tree huggers think before you preach!
Economics playa a major role in some of our lives in regards to the choices
we HAVE to make.
Like it or not.
