[Vwdiesel] Cheap Fuel

A large part of the trouble is that humans have gotten used to cheap fuel,
and so have adopted a lifestyle that is comfortable with such. $2.50 a gallon
is extremely cheap compared with the rest of human history. If one makes $25
after taxes and whatnot per hour of labor that buys 10 gallons of fuel. That
fuel allows one to drive 500 miles at 75 mph in an mk2 jetta. Overly
simplistically, an eight hour work day at $25 per hour would buy fuel to travel 4,000
miles. Previously one had to work a significant amount of time per year to
grow enough hay to keep ones horse(s) alive through the winter. One needed to
harvest and store that hay, in order for the occasional trip to the market at 5
MPH! And that was a heck of a lot better than walking and carrying the goods
back. Quite frankly I don't mind if we continue to have cheap energy sources.
When viewed from that perspective, fuel oil is a bargain at $100 a gallon.
Just a bit o' perspective.
