I don't think you'd want a diesel engine running in your basement. It is
almost impossible to quieten it enough. You would have to build a concrete
bunker around it and over it plus do sonic treatments as well. I'm looking
at this for a smaller, slow RPM one cylinder plant (possibly a Chinese
Changfa diesel, even a Listeroid if i could afford it) that I wish to run
24/7. I have decided that the attached garage is the closest to the living
quarters that I can put it and still be able to get the coolant heat for
domestic hot water use. If it were not for the hot water co-gen requirement
I'd put it out in the shop with the bigger VW unit. The other factor is
that I DO NOT want diesel or waste oil inside my home. Spills happen.
