[Vwdiesel] Genset RPM and Diesels

  Why would you want a variable speed transmission?  Seems to me 
you'd want to run at peak torque and keep[ the engine at that speed.  
The engine puts out the most power for fuel at that point.  Perhaps 
running a bit above it would be best so that when the load increases 
and the governor kicks in, it's at peak torque for maintaining/recovering 
speed.  I was going to look up where the peak torque is on the 1.5 but 
I can't seem to find my copy of the SAE paper with the graph on it. 

  So did the arc welder exceed the capacity of the generator at 
that speed or was the engine unable to maintain speed with 
that load?
