On Rabbits, the final ratio of 4th or 5th gears in the respective 
transmissions, are virtually the same.  All the 5 speed did was 
give you a more optimized acceleration.  It took me a while to 
realize this, after noting that the noise, fuel mileage, etc. weren't
really very different.  I understand that the 5 speed is more
prone to failure.
