The slipping Spocket mystery .----- we are getting close to solving the problem.
Chuckie --- you know how dear your wife (the teach) and you are to me ---so there was
NO intention of teasing.
As it happened the possible reason just came to me -----before pushing the send button.
And I still have a lot of computer problems ---- like Shalyns diesels or
worse.
I have a sponge of a brain , and all the threads from ALL the members are instantly accessible
in my brain. Sort of like Photographic memory ---- or Total recall.
So I remember Val Christian saying that a VW installed sprocket slipped. ----Val got a 1977 VW
diesels brand new.--------, . I personally have had NO problems ----so for a long time it was
NOT on my top priority.
Then years later Mark Shepherd mentioned bolt bottoming out ? ----wow I have to find out..
So I went downstairs and picked up a cam ----- hole was 1.6 inch US deep..
BUT this morning I went down and grabbed the sprocket. ----and low and behold ----the butt end of the
cam is very close to the face of the sprocket. ------LESS than 40 thou inch us. .
That makes for a very "Critical" dimention. ------SO tighten bolt and remove and measure.
IF flush ? you got problems -----READ MY LIPS. A 1000 foot pounds torque would never fix
that sprocket to shaft.
Problem could be a PO installed sprocket or a VW mistake.
To make measurement VALID tighten to specks only ----at least --- at first.
Hagar.
