If you have access to MTL, don't waste your time trying other stuff. I've used Castrol
& Pennzoil, both synth and dino, along with VW oem synth, Amsoil synth (both cheap
stuff and top end series3000), and Redline MTL. Redline is by far the best all round
performer. VW oem synth is not bad (from dealer), and Amsoil is ok, the rest are
terrible. My original Jetta ACW trans still shifts like a dream with 480k kms on MTL.
