Vwdiesel Digest, Vol 19, Issue 80Hi Milt,

So far, I have had no success with ANY GL-5 synthetic in a tranny. Too slippery even with additives. Use a GL-4 oil of some kind. The Redline MT90 (75W-90) and MTL (70W-80) have been the best oils that I have found in all of the manual trannys that I have used them in (VW, Honda, Ford Festiva, MG, Chevy, Lotus, Pinzgauer, Unimog so far).

86 Jetta TD engine. Seems to be an inside hex bolt for tranny draining. What size?

I know MTL is excellent to use. Anyone try a synthetic blend such as Valvoline 80W-90?
