My 95 Passat has  a stiff driver's inside lock.   Working against the pneumatics was what I thought.  The key seems to work fine so I left things alone

Well take a look at that ... The reason why all the door locks seem a
little stiff (I think I mentioned that when I first drove it) is because
all doors have the pneumatic central locking bellows preinstalled!
