[Vwdiesel] No glow ....

Yup have the Bentley.  No such trouble shooting section for glow plugs in my copy !
8.31 ??  Would that be the chapter ??  If so, its for the heating and cooling system in mine ..

  Do you have the Bentley?  Great glow plug troubleshooting 8.31.  Terminals of relay panel should be as follows: 
  continuity between 87 and bus bar 
  continuity between terminal T and ground when coolant is below 50°C, open when above 
  there should be voltage between terminal 30 (power from battery) and terminal 85 (ground) 
  Terminal 50 should see 12 volts between it and ground when starter is cranked.  The recommend disconnecting the fuel stop solenoid (and insulate it from ground) for the test. 
  There should be battery voltage between terminal L (controls glow plug light) and terminal 85 when ignition is turned on. 
  If you do those checks it will isolate where the problem is.
