I'm running Rotella T 15w-40. Since I made it through last winter on it but
had to go back into my engine this spring I guess it is round II for
breakin. I got 5k on that first time around and plasti gaged the bearings
this spring and they were like new and still tight. Here in NC it doesn't
get to cold but we do get our mornings some times around 18 degrees F. I'm
keeping the oil changes around 2500 miles. I need to adjust the pump due to
the fact that my oil gets black fast. I'm still getting some smoke, not
really a whole lot, but some. I do get a nice cloud of light grey smoke on
start up first thing in the morning or after the car sits at work. So far I
have 3k on these new rings. Oh and still no oil pressure at the head sender
after warm up.

And for what its worth...What do you folks run, and at what temperature
ranges? I've been running 15W-40...mainly because that's what I can find
that's diesel rated... in a hurry at the station.
I've always run Cennex 15W/40 year round, even when it's -20F.
That doesn't happen much anymore but other than slighlty slow
cranking on the COLDEST mornigns it does fine. Pour point is
the real thing on cold starts and it has a lower one than a lot
of "thinner" oils.
