[Vwdiesel] transmission swaps

Well, my 82 rabbit is not doing well. Leaking coolent and 35mpg do not
make me happy. Luckily, I have an 85 golf with a decent engine and a 5
speed transmission. I know the block should be able to be swapped
(saving the intake/exhaust from the rabbit, as well as the alternator
bracket, because the golf has AC and the rabbit doesn't, and maybe the
timing belt cover?) but the transmission mount looks different. The
rabbit has 4 bolts going down into the transmission and an arm
extending toward the front of the car. The golf has 2 bolts in it
sideways and the arm extends to the back of the car. Can it be made to
work? I'd be much happier with the nice tall 5 speed instead of the 4.
And was getting 50mpg with the golf, so the lighter rabbit might do
even better, right?
Any hints, pitfalls and considerations I need to account for would be
greatly appreciated. I should be getting an engine hoist soon so I can
get the transaxle out of the golf and prepped (new timing belt, water
pump, all that nice stuff)
Thanks
