I keep a 20L can of Xylene here for paint thinner for spraying and cleaning
solvent. I've observed that it makes a lot of black smoke when burned so I
figure it must have a rather long carbon chain in it's moleculular
structure, meaning a lot of energy per fluid volume compared to other
hydrocarbon liquids. I was thinking that an electrically heated xylene
boiler might create vapour that could be used as an acetylene substitute for
a torch used with oxygen like the common oxy-acetylene torch. I have not
pursued or researched this idea.
