No, in normal usage. Harder than normal usage will cause them to wear
faster, but loss of rate in a spring is normal over time.
Well, I think they were designed to last for one purchase. Trouble is, the
designers were not allowing for a diesel engine, and extreme longevity.
Similar gas cars are rebar in China long ago.

meaning the pounds per inch needed to compress, decreases over usage.

Is the wear mainly due to over loading? I'd say that 'softer' (more turns)
springs last longer due to less torsion per inch. So is there room for a
larger soft spring to give us what we want which is 1 purchase per
car...Transferable...
