[Vwdiesel] Front Strut Coil spring Rubber

I ordered some Bilstein front strut inserts for my 81 camper pickup. Noticed that KYB offers boots that I think go under the coils. According to KYB these boots assist the coil spring. How would these compare to using a rubber coil spacer? Are rubber coil spacers a generic item; where to get?
