The 1967 VW Fastback 1600 dual carb job was 6.0 Volt system. Does
anyone know when
12.0 Volt systems became standard ?---just curious..

VW went 12V in '67. My wife's old Beetle has a flashy sticker with a
lightning bolt that boasts 12V! You must've had a real early one from
what I know. In US cars it was Ford I believe that went pos ground for
a couple years, not positive just who it was but it wasn't for long.

Gee, and I always understood it was because they would put out nearly
full power just above an idle, didn't de-polarize, lasted longer and could
put out more power in a similar sized package.

Just curious HOW the Rabbit electrical is a crappy design? Negative
ground, compact fuse relay panel... There are problems but not so much
by design. Most are related to water in the fuse panel which are from
windshield leaks and antenna grommet leaks. The grounding issues are
just plain "interesting" why they happen. I've never seen a design flaw for
them, unless they should've used gold contacts or something. ;-)
