[Vwdiesel] Crap!

Sorry to hear the bad news. To bad your not closer. The $40 all you can
carry yard here has three diesels, from what I can tell the blocks are good,
no heads, but they are all 1.6L's. One is an 85 Jetta turbo.
Congrats on you son wrenching on his own. It's a start. :)

I know it doesn't help much but I do know how you feel. Wish I could help,
heaven knows you and everyone on this list have really helped me a ton and
carried me through my hard times.

  But on the plus side, my son FINALLY did some automotive wrenching 
and actually did it by himself!!!  Down side is the Dasher engine.  We had 
water in the combustion and even a tad in the oil so the head came off 
AGAIN with only a couple miles on it since the Total Seal-ized rings 
went in.  Gasket was fairly gone in the front he said.  I went up to take 
a look and the block is cracked at two bolt holes.  :-(  I KNOW I ran a 
tap through them and blew them out!  Still, somehow I screwed up it 
appears.  Anybody in the PNW have a 1.5 block kicking around?  The 
other option is to pull the engine and tranny out of the Quantum I 
have sitting around, transfer the rings into it, bag the 1.5 and sell the 
BAE kit on ebay.  :-P
  Probably the more wise option but I hate to scrap the engine with the 
rest of it perfectly good and the Quantum is no beauty but it's also not 
worth fixing with everything else I have to drive.  It'd just go to scrap 
unless someone would want one for parts.
