I understood the pump to (also?) be an 'afterun' pump which helps to cool the
engine after a hot shutdown. I've noticed my TD engine compartment temps climb
dramatically after the engine is shutdown. ie: if I remove the lid right away, it's not
bad, but if I wait 10 minutes after a long run, then remove it, it is much hotter in
there. I have only seen it once - Serge in Edmonton has one on his stock Euro
1.6TD transplant into his Syncro. He also has the stock wastegate cooler fan. I think
he is on the list, so maybe he will chime in. You can see the pic of the pump in the
'engine compartment photo' in the Factory TD Setup folder. Silver pump looks like a
gas fuel pump due north of the alternator on the firewall. It appears to pull (push?)
water from the lower cooler outlet and probably continues onto the heater circuit I
guess. I have seen several Espar/Webasto/Proheat coolant circ pumps on Ebay
that would probably work well for this.
